Managing Stress & Anxiety

HEE South West is pleased to offer one day training to all trainees focusing on Managing Stress and Anxiety
We know that training can be a stressful and anxiety provoking time. There are many competing demands; work, placements, exams, ARCP’S, portfolios, research, papers, family/ friends and home life commitments (to name a few).

This day will explore anxiety and stress and how they impact on our functioning, thoughts, emotions and performance. We will look at thinking styles and how these can lead to and perpetuate anxiety and stress. We will explore the theory behind these ideas and discuss a combination of behavioural and cognitive techniques to work effectively to manage anxiety and stress.

Learning objectives:

•To think about anxiety and stress within the context of competing work/ training and personal life commitments.
•To explore what works well for individuals and what may be hindering them.
•To teach to techniques to help better manage stress and anxiety

Course facilitators:

Dr Emma Lishman and Dr Ines Obradovic are Clinical Psychologist’s who work for Hammet Street Consultants and specialise in working with doctors in training. Recognising the immense pressure junior doctors face they started running courses (reducing stress and anxiety, exam support, building resilience) which offer support and open up conversations about some of the difficulties doctors face.
